Supporting NC Cancer Patients

In May of 1999, a Cary, NC resident was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer and told she had a 20% chance of surviving five years. In the year after her diagnosis, she underwent aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, multiple surgeries, and a stem cell transplant in order to save her life. Throughout those difficult months, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and relatives helped with household chores, delivered meals, provided child care, and supported the family in numerous ways. After her treatment was completed, the family threw a backyard party to say “thank you” to all those people. At the end of the evening, a bucket was passed around and party goers were asked to contribute a few dollars to pay it forward.

That night, $724 was collected to help one patient, and the Caring Community Foundation had its humble beginning. Since that first night, CCF has provided financial assistance to more than 5000 families, and distributed more than $3 million to to cancer patients treated in NC, including individuals receiving care at major hospitals across Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Your local donations stay local, helping families in the Triangle and beyond pay for rent, utilities, and transportation.

Cancer changes everything. The bills don't stop. The rent is still due. And in the middle of it all, a family is simply trying to hold together.

That's where we come in.

The Caring Community Foundation lifts the financial weight off cancer patients and their families, covering the basics like rent, utilities, and transportation, so they can focus on what matters most: healing.

The donors and supporters of CCF comprise a community that believes no one should face cancer alone.

Behind every mission is a moment. CCF founders Eric and Jill Wolford share how it all began, and what keeps it going.
